KZN Premier Sports Awards 2013: Jennifer Higgins

October 2010 – 5th Down Syndrome World Championships Competition held in Taipei, Taiwan.  Jennifer Higgins won 5 gold medals and broke 3 World Records.   She was the only South African swimmer to win an individual gold medal at the championships.  Placed 2nd as overall top female swimmer of the championships.

November 2012 – 6th Down Syndrome World Championships    Competition held in Loano, Italy.  Jennifer was one of 8 swimmers who represented South Africa.   She won 4 gold medals and 2 silver medals – setting 3 World Records & 1 South African/African Record.   Jennifer was also presented trophy as Top Female Swimmer.   Jennifer currently holds 4 short course World Records and 7 long course records.

At KZN Swimming Championships in December 2012, Jennifer continued her top form by swimming personal best time in all but one race;  achieving 4 World Records & an additional 4 South Africa/Africa records (long course)

At the SASA-II National Games held in 2010, 2011 & 2012 she was the top female swimmer with Down syndrome.  She holds all the South Africa & Africa records in both long & short course categories in the Down syndrome category
